Abstract
Stray 50Hz magnetic fields from power cables and electrical equipment can cause interference to computers and other electronic equipment in buildings. In particular, interference to computer display screens, or 'VDU wobble', can be caused by quite low-level magnetic fields. This paper focuses on the magnetic fields in non-domestic buildings produced by building services equipment such as busbars, transformers, lift gear and HVAC plant. It reviews what can be done to keep magnetic fields at normal background levels, and how interference to computer monitors can be avoided.
