Manufacturer spotlight: Improve building fire safety with ROCKWOOL®

ROCKWOOL® has launched a new fire barrier product that is tested in accordance with the latest BS EN standards. Fire Barrier EN replaces Fire Barrier and Fire Barrier Slab, giving specifiers a simple swap for new and existing projects since their discontinuation on 15th November 2024.

Fire Barrier EN is a passive fire protection solution designed to inhibit the spread of fire and smoke through concealed spaces within a building. Fire Barrier EN is available with a black foil facing on one or both sides, for single- and double-layer systems respectively. The product expands upon the scope of application available from ROCKWOOL, while streamlining the range to simplify specification.

“Fire Barrier EN replaces both Fire Barrier and Fire Barrier Slab said Will Wigfield, Product Manager HVAC & Fire Protection at ROCKWOOL. “With this new product, we are underlining our commitment to ensuring that ROCKWOOL solutions are tested to EN standards wherever possible, and simplifying specification where possible by streamlining the range.

“Customers will see that we have built upon and expanded the scope of application available from ROCKWOOL. Depending on the application and fixing method, Fire Barrier EN offers a fire resistance of up to two hours.”

Fire Barrier EN has been tested in a series of common applications including below concrete soffits and within timber joist construction. Steel, copper and plastic pipes, as well as timber beams and cable trays were tested with a 300mm sleeve of Fire Barrier EN stitched-back on each side.

ROCKWOOL Fire Barrier EN replaces Fire Barrier and Fire Barrier Slab, which are discontinued as of 15th November 2024. Please swap your existing specifications of Fire Barrier and Fire Barrier Slab to Fire Barrier EN now.

*Subject to the application and fixing method.
