RIBA Enterprises acquires The Building Centre Bookshop

Press Release
24 February 2011

RIBA Enterprises is pleased to announce its acquisition of The Building Centre Bookshop, which will now be managed and operated by RIBA Bookshops.

As a leading forum in the UK for independent debate and learning across all sectors of the built environment, The Building Centre in Bloomsbury, London, attracts a broad spectrum of engineering, architecture and construction industry professionals, students and enthusiasts from all over the country.

With the support of The Building Centre and New London Architecture (NLA), RIBA Enterprises intends to build on the renowned legacy of the site and reestablish its status as the leading provider of specialist literature relating to the construction industry and built environment.

RIBA Enterprises' acquisition of The Building Centre Bookshop will strengthen the company's network of bookshops – particularly the two existing London establishments which are located at the RIBA Headquarters in Portland Place and the Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour.

With a specialist stock of construction and built environment titles, this new addition to the group will provide a complementary presence to the existing bookshops, supplementing Portland Place's extensive range of architectural and design books and Chelsea Harbour's collection of interior design and decoration titles.

Steven Cross, Director of RIBA Bookshops & Publishing said; "We are delighted to be offered this opportunity to manage such a promising enterprise as The Building Centre Bookshop and look forward to expanding on its successful reputation within the industry."

"RIBA Bookshops is a well-known and highly regarded brand, with a strong customer base and an extensive and evolving catalogue of publications. We believe that the addition of The Building Centre Bookshop will enhance our provision of technical publications for the built environment and construction industries, therefore providing the UK with a much-needed information hub catering specifically to the UK's growing interest in and appreciation for these sectors."

The Building Centre Bookshop will remain in its current location and all staff will be retained as employees of RIBA Enterprises.
