We caught up with ROCKWOOL to find out about the manufacturer’s new purpose-made solution for cavity fire stopping.
ROCKWOOL is a leading manufacturer of sustainable stone wool insulation products and has been manufacturing in the UK for over 40 years.
One of the manufacturer’s latest products, SP FireStop EN, is a purpose-made solution for cavity fire stopping which supports architects specifying cavity fire stops for buildings across a range of common constructions.
SP FireStop EN was initially tested in constructions with multiple substrates including masonry, concrete, steel frame systems and composite panels with a stone wool core – and while the product was tested on launch to BS EN 1366-4:2021, SP FireStop EN is now also tested to the relevant curtain wall standard 1364-4:2014.
SP FireStop EN will supersede the existing ROCKWOOL cavity fire stopping solution, SP FireStop. With its expanded field of application, SP FireStop EN offers architects increased flexibility, allowing them to incorporate the new solution as a direct replacement.
Key features:
Up to 120 minutes integrity and insulation in cavities up to 600mm*.
High emissivity black foil facing.
Tested to BS EN 1366-4:2021 and BS EN 1364-4:2014.
Tested specifically for use with steel frame systems and composite panels.
Tested in an ‘installation from below’ scenario.
"NBS were early adopters of digital construction technology, so it seemed like a logical partnership to contain our product information on one easy to use platform in the form of NBS Source." - Will Wigfield, Product Manager – Fire Protection at ROCKWOOL UK
“At ROCKWOOL, we’re committed to testing our products extensively to ensure built performance and safety,” says Will Wigfield, Product Manager – Fire Protection at ROCKWOOL.
“We recognise and agree with new guidance indicating the important of the specific curtain wall standard, and it’s been our first priority among a series of tests we are planning for the product.”
