Before we run through Argent's plans for King's Cross Central, the scene is set by showing how King's Cross's once famous gas holder Triplet lies mothballed in racks next to the still-standing-but-forlorn-looking gas holder 8 in a weed-strewn patch of the site.
Argent chief executive, Roger Madelin, explains why the gas holders are so important to the scheme and describes how the interlocking lattice of the Triplet is to be converted into 144 apartments in a new position on the north edge of Regent's Canal.
The highly decorative gas holder 8 was the subject of a hotly contested design competition to turn the structure into a public space. We hear winner Bell Phillips + Kimble's plans, as well as learning about some of the issues arising when historic structures are reconfigured.
