Take part in the NBS National Construction Contracts and Law Survey 2015

About the survey

First run in 2012, this NBS study solicits feedback on your practical experience of construction contracts and related legal issues in the last 12 months.

It is the most wide-ranging independent review of contractual and legal issues throughout the industry, based on responses from contractors, clients, consultants and advisors, and will provide an accurate and in-depth picture of legal issues and disputes at each phase of construction, covering subjects such as:

• Tendering and procurement
• Pricing
• The reference and adoption of BIM in contracts
• Collaborative working
• Main issues of dispute, their duration and value

What trends are you looking out for this time?

As BIM adoption becomes more widespread and the construction industry moves on from the doldrums of recession, we’ll be looking to see what impact these changes are having on construction contracts.

Our 2013 study showed that disputes remained a real (and growing) issue for the industry, and often involved large sums of money. 30% of respondents cited a project in dispute (up 6% on the previous year) and 7% reported three or more projects in dispute. We’ll be looking to see if such disputes are continuing to rise.

Support for collaboration in principle wasn’t always borne out in practice according to our previous survey findings – only 10% of respondents adopted collaborative techniques for all their projects. Ahead of the 2016 mandated use of Level 2 BIM on public sector projects it’ll be interesting to see if things have changed this time around.

If your organization is based in the UK we’re interested in the UK or international projects that you started, completed or went into dispute during the past 12 months.

As well as forming the basis of our Construction Contracts and Legal Issues 2015 Report later in the year, feedback from participants will help NBS inform the development of construction contracts and dispute resolution methods in the construction industry.

Those who take part will secure exclusive access to a pre-release version of that report ahead of the formal launch and be entered into a prize draw.
