Specification notes

Record all of your project decisions directly in your specification

A construction project involves lots of different stakeholders. So it’s essential to capture everyone’s input when writing the specification and afterwards to understand why decisions have been made.

The Specification Notes feature in NBS Chorus enables you to record project decisions directly in your specification as it’s developed, e.g. a reason why a clause has been parked, a design preference or an essential health and safety requirement.

Specification Notes can help you to:

  • Reduce risk: record why decisions have been made in one central place, create a clear audit trail and helping to avoid mistakes being made.
  • Collaborate better: invite the whole project team, including third parties, to view and contribute to the specification in the Specification Notes.
  • Improve efficiency: Specification Notes are a point of reference for the project team, reducing the number of questions arising on a project and helping you to deliver it faster.

Specification Notes are available with an NBS Chorus Pro subscription; if you'd like to access the feature, please complete the form, and one of our team members will be in touch.

A preview of the Specification Notes feature can be seen in the short video below, taken from the NBS Chorus Pro launch webinar.

NBS Chorus Pro features

Typically, a specification is published as a PDF in its complete form. However, with Chorus Pro, you can export information in several different formats.
This feature allows you to invite users from external organizations to collaborate on projects. For example, you could invite the client or contractor to comment on the specification in progress or inviting a consultant or manufacturer into a part of the specification to help with the authoring work.
Create templates from scratch or reuse from existing jobs, meaning less time spent on repetitive tasks and more time adding value to a project. Easily create and maintain design standards and preferences, and build every new project from lessons learnt.
Record project decisions directly in your specification as it’s developed, e.g. a reason why a clause has been parked, a design preference or an essential health and safety requirement.
Organization Notes in NBS Chorus enables you to record best-practice and lessons learnt from previous projects. The information is only visible to users within your organization and, once written, can be accessed on all new projects.
Revisions in NBS Chorus are built around the process defined in the ISO 19650 series of standards. When modifications are made to a specification, the changes are automatically highlighted so that the recipient can see any new, amended, or deleted requirements.
Stylesheets in NBS Chorus is an innovative feature that enables you to create customised templates for your specifications which automatically include your or your client's brand and style.
Summary schedules enables you to highlight significant aspects of the work early in a project, create reports that describe systems that contribute to the outline specification as recommended when following the RIBA Plan of Work and BSRIA's BG56, and confirm with the project team the scope of specification writing.
